Upcoming Tennis Holiday Program - South Oakleigh, Bentleigh, Ormond, Coatesville, Clayton, Clarinda

In just over a week and a half, we will be running our school holiday tennis clinic. What is great about the holiday program is that it gives the students an oppurtunity to play a consistent 3 hour each day and really improve on all of their skills. Whilst weekly lessons are vital and important, they are limited to 40-60 minutes on average and often only once a week. By enrolling in our holiday tennis program at Oakleigh South Primary School, students will be able to get 3 hours of tennis over 3 consecutive days.

Another great aspect of the program is the potential for them to meet other children from our various classes around Melbourne. We operate at over 30 venues around Melbourne during the year and this means we often have children attending from all different schools and that are of all different ages.

So if you think you would like to get your child moving to the next level with their tennis skills, why not sign up for our program and give it a shot.

We cant wait to see you out there on the court.

Sports Incursion at BNPS

Last week we visited NBPS and ran a mutli sport incursion for a group of 75 grade 5 students. The clinic was a big success with the whole group getting involved in all activities and participating at their highest level.

The team on the day ran them through their paces in Fitness, Netball & Cricket. The students were taught the technical aspects of the sports and also engaged in a number of competitions inlcuding passing competitions, shooting competitions and cricket specific catching.

Over all we had a great session and we are thrilled to be returning next Friday to continue their Friday morning sports program.

Golf is a sport that can be played for life.

We were thrilled to see a new campaign and initiative by New Zealand Golf to get more girls playing golf more often. The campaign and video highlighted the fantastic aspects that golf have to offer including Fitness, Fun & Friends.

We are huge fans of the sport and run it in a number of local melbourne schools as well as regularly offer it during holiday programs, events & birthday parties.

The social & fun elements make it a sport that can be played for life, and for us this is all part of the message. We want to see our students make friends and learn a sport that they can continue to participate in for the rest of their lives.

Golf is one of those sports that can be played for a long time, and is a great way to meet new people.

How can we get our kids moving?

With the rise of technology and screens in the modern age, getting kids outside and moving is getting harder and harder for parents. Once apon a time children would think of nothing better than running around in the back yard playing football, cricket, netball soccer...you name it. Now with Ipads, laptops and moile phones within an arms reach, many children are simply opting to sit on the couch and engage with the screen.

So what can we do to encourage them to get out and get moving?

Well we think it is important to come at this from a positive point of view. Rather than nag and preach about the negative aspects of technology, we need to make outdoor fitness and play more appealing to this new generation.

Children love when they have the oppurtunity to play and engage with parents or guardians, so why not lead by example and schedule a time each week where you go and play outside as a family? Seeing mum, dad or guardian having fun and excercing will reinforce the idea that outdoor play is something fun and exciting, rather than something that has to be completed to get more screen time for children. They will also be more likley to engage in activity without parents on weekdays if they associate it with fun and family.

Another great way is to challenge children by giving them focussed and measurable tasks relating to exercise and sport. Get them to see how many times they can hit the ball against the wall, or how far they can kick a football. Children love a challenge, and the right one will keep them occupied for hours if they want to achieve a goal.

Finally, now could be a great chance for you as a parent to get back into an activity you havent done for a while. Rejoin that basketball or netball team, re connect with the PT or group training class, or even better start a new sport. Why is this great? children as we all know absorb far more than we realise at any given time. Seeing mum, dad or guardian commiting to a positive activity such as this, demonstrates that it is improtant and also teaches children about routine and teamwork. Take them to a game or class and they will be taking in far more than that amazing goal you kicked on the buzzer!

We hope this has helped! Feel free to email us with any tricks or tips you have for getting them up and moving. info@fitforkidsco.com.au
